Unlike more aggressive breeds, there is relatively little difference in temperament, activity or trainability between a male and female Basset Hound.
Both make excellent companion pets. Females (bitches) which are not spayed go into season (or heat) approximately every 6 months. Bitches also tend to weigh on average about 10 pounds less than males.
